Adding Color to Time

While staying at the THE LYDMAR HOTEL in Stokholm a few months back, I discovered these Triwa watches in the gift shop. I was immediately drawn in by the design and bold play of color. Since the bands are plastic, they are lightweight, casual and inexpensive. A bright yellow version made it out of the case and onto my wrist.

Unfortunately, this new yellow friend left me soon after by running away with my rental car! Upon my return home, I found my way to their website and mesmerized by their timeless rainbow, I ordered the Laven Dandy and Brazil Dandy.

A few more clicks through the Triwa site and I found clues as to why I was emotionally drawn to the company. I appreciate and relate to much of what they say about themselves:

“TRIWA is deadly serious about being playful and unpretentious. And we don’t mind being provocative in a creative, uplifting way. We always have a rebellious approach to the game being played. We know the rules, and we’ve even written some of them ourselves. But we will not necessarily follow them if they stand in the way of our creativity.“

Antique Hunting Cocktail

My Mom always has fun I mean always, no matter what she is doing she can find a way to get a laugh and a smile out of the situation. One of our regular mother/daughter activities is the hunt of the rare Antique. Oh the treasures we have uncovered – troves of butterflies caught by a 19th century sailing world traveler, A splendid English leech jar complete with its original, perforated lid and handles…. Recently we canvassed some of our favorite haunts while mom sipped a tall Jack Daniel’s on the rocks with lime. Jack always brings extra luck.

For our favorite Antique and Estate jewelry, we discovered Manhattan based Kentshire . They fare especially strong in Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco styles… I love this bracelet ! Comb through and you will find a plethora of treasures. This is truly the best of the best! If 15th-19th century textiles are your thing, search out Marilyn Garrow . Her lovely daughter Lydia runs the London gallery and has an eye for selecting the best from grandmum’s hutch of toile to an exquisite late 18th century French priest’s cope. They will ship anywhere and often show their textiles in the US – a must see. In Chicago, don’t miss my favorite shoppe for pieces of intrigue and objects of a lost world, the enchanted Architectural Artifacts . You’ll need a half day to uncover everything from 17th-20th century wood, marble, stone, iron and terra cotta fireplace mantles (the largest selection in the country, bar none), art deco bars to vintage rodeo photos. A ceiling of diamonds sparkle with no less than a thousand of the finest crystal chandeliers you’ll ever see. Peruse their multi-leveled palace and you will see what I mean – dogs are welcome. For extra luck, wherever you seek, you may want to try my mom’s lucky Hunt-of-the-Antique Cocktail:

A triple shot of Jack Daniels
Ice
Lime

Pour a triple shot over ice in a tall glass. Add two limes. Don’t be afraid to spread your red lipstick around the rim.
