Reed Moon

December 2, 2009

I have always been drawn to the cycles of the moon.  Join our lunar journey through the Lunar Club Haut-Chocolat.  Receive a different chocolate collection each month, just in time to enjoy by the light of the full moon.   - Katrina

Taste…Volcano Island Honey Collection: one-half organic white honey, one-half dark chocolate ganache.

The Reed Moon is a sign of the end of autumn and the approaching winter months. As temperatures drop, the Reed Moon encourages us to return our focus to our home and families. It is a time to turn to those we trust the most in our lives and nurture our hunger for peace and spirituality by reconnecting with these loved ones.

The Reed tree is also a symbol of love, a theme that is tied closely to chocolate’s history and the Aztec Collection. First discovered by the Aztec and Mayan peoples of Mesoamerica, the original chocolate brew, xocatyl, was made by grinding the cacao bean with chillies, herbs, annatto and cornmeal. The frothed tincture was held in the highest regard and believed to bestow wisdom and virility to all who sipped it. The Aztec emperor Montezuma truly believed in the aphrodisiac qualities of cacao, and was known to sip xocatyl nearly 50 times per day!  The connection between chocolate and its aphrodisiac traits lives on, even today. Under the light of the Reed moon, savor the Red Fire truffle: ancho chillies, dark chocolate and cinnamon and ponder chocolate’s rich history.

Vosges Haut-Chocolat combines Volcano Island organic white honey with dark chocolate to form one of the most coveted truffles of the year. Our friend Richard Spiegel harvests this rare, ethereal honey from the Kiawe trees of Hawaii’s Big Island.
